Time it Took to Accomplish Project: 8 days
The Tordo family wanted more visual appeal for their front yard than what their sloped, rocky property had to offer.
Their property was a challenge, as it was a ledge outcropping with a 15 to 20-foot drop down from their front door. This made their front door altogether inaccessible.
They didn’t like how it looked and so they contacted us. Lynn didn’t believe much could be done for her property, but for our team, nothing is impossible.
Step 1: Walking the Property
Joe and Denise got straight to step one in the pre-phase portion of the project, walking the property with the Tordos.
While they examined the grounds with Lynn, Denise suggested a stone staircase trailing up the face of the ledge. The Tordos instantly loved the idea.
Step II: Designing a Concept
So step two began: designing a concept. Denise, our head of design, sketched a design that included a beautiful, natural, stone staircase that would guide them from the bottom curb and up around to the front door of their home.
The Tordos loved the concept, especially with the suggested addition of flowering evergreens, and so Phase I of the project could begin!
Denise’s original sketch concept for the new rock stairway and gardens.
Phase I: Installing the Rock Stairway
We excavated most of the front slope, in an attempt to create a new path for the stairway. We saved the excavated stone, selecting only the most ideal shaped rocks to then use as the stepping-stones in this rock stairway.
Much of the property would need extra support due to the extreme slope of the ground, so we reinforced the path with larger excavated stones, and secured them along the pathway.
With a clear path secured up the face of the newly shaped front yard, floral embellishments could, at last, be added.
Phase II: Planting Trees and Foliage
Our team worked hard planting multiple woodland plants that you would see naturally thriving in a forest, along with flowering evergreens, alpine flowers, and tumbling ground cover.
Joe and Denise’s goal was to make the plantings appear completely natural in their surroundings as if they had been growing there for years!
Further planting an assortment of spring bulbs would create beautiful surprises that the Tordos would be able to enjoy year-round.
And since we offer year-round maintenance to applicable jobs, this means we will back at the Tordo’s property this year to maintain and add more spring bulbs. Lynn wants to glance out her kitchen window and see more colors bursting across her front yard, and we want to make her dream come true!
In total, it took only 8 days to complete this project, and the Tordos couldn’t have been happier with the results. But taking on this challenge was our pleasure in the end!
“Once we agreed on a plan & schedule, there was no stopping this passionate couple & their dedicated team!”
“Denise & Joe came to see our project— we call the front cliff— and immediately had ideas on how to turn it from drab to fabulous.
“They arrived each day as promised and in only 8 days, our front cliff is a beautiful garden, natural steps to our house, lots of flowering shrubs and perennials.
“I now smile when I drive up to my house! I highly recommend AJM Earthscaping – you will not be disappointed!”
